“We covered 100 miles in just over 7 hours which, when you consider we are a team of colleagues from Wickes and not Olympic athletes, that’s not that bad at all.”

Well, with just under 2 weeks to go the majority of the team (Chris had to work! boooooo!) went out for our final training ride together on Sunday. We covered 100 miles in just over 7 hours which, when you consider we are a team of colleagues from Wickes and not Olympic athletes, that’s not that bad at all. Could I get up and do it again this morning? Not through choice no!!

I planned a route to test us as much as I could, few hills, few busy bits of road and some nice scenery. I must say the hills around Salisbury look a lot nicer from the top!! However, Salisbury plain must be the most open wind swept bit of land in the country! This was a real reality check, this is a very very long way, it is going to hurt…. a lot! and I think our next event will be sponsored Sunday afternoon Golf!If you want to see the route, download Map My Ride and friend request bensummerhill (all one word). You can find the App at  – http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/mapmyride-gps-cycling/id292223170?mt=8

Weather was absolutely amazing which is good as in my minds eye from John O Groats it’s all down hill, the wind will be on our backs and the sun will be shining at all times. Just like it was yesterday!I would imagine the reality is slightly more challenging.

So, another day away from the family, another day of not playing with the kids and an evening feeling sorry for myself as I ache all over. I must admit I’m glad that’s the last big training ride, beginning to miss the lazy Sunday afternoons I used to have with the family. The jobs that need doing around the house are starting to build up too, might have to get a handyman in!

I would like to thank you all on behalf of the team for your efforts so far. We have over £4,000 on the website and we haven’t even started yet! I know we will only be able to deliver our target of £10k with you guys behind us and I can’t wait to see all the pictures of the daft things you are doing.

Many many thanks
